Ab-Soul Releases New Video ‘Huey Knew’ [WATCH]
Ab-Soul channels Black Panther co-founder Huey P. Newton in his new music video "Huey Knew".
Fans have been not so patiently waiting for new Ab-Soul music but he's been especially quiet this entire year. But over the summer he did announce a tracklist for his new album via twitter and TDE's CEO Anthony Tiffith confirmed.
Tiffith posted to Instagram, “It’s mixing and sample clearing time… Y’all know Wut happens after that.” But we didn't hear much after that until now with the release of his new single "Huey Knew".
He opens the song with a remixed version of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air theme song before getting into the first verse. “They speak highly of me when I raise my voice /I gotta shoot a fuckin’ free throw to make my point/My wittiness leave them tucked in the wilderness, you’ll need a backwood to roll to this joint/I’m Robin Hood in Robin jeans, you follow me?/Nevermind, I’m tired of tight analogies,” he raps.
Soon enough, the very fuzzy images on the screen sharpen and you can see Ab is watching different scenes of police brutality against black citizens on tv, only showing the rappers shadow in the forefront. The video is continues to show emotional images blatantly pointing out the racial issues affecting the world today with the line, "Bucket of black paint in-front the white house."
The video was directed by A-Plus. Ab-Soul shared some artwork and pictures on Instagram with the #DWTW hashtag, which is likely his new album title. He used the same hashtag six weeks prior when he re-posted Tiffith's photo of a folder that said “Soulo Final Mixes.”
