Aaliyah Biopic Details Surface Due to Actress Tristin Mays

If you were wondering what ever happened to that Aaliyah biopic that people have been talking about forever, there's just been a major update, thanks to someone who was auditioning for the lead role.

According to actress Tristin Mays, she almost snagged the part of the late R&B singer, but she ultimately wasn't chosen.

"Normally I wouldn't do something like this, but a very close friend of mine, @loganlaurice, gave me the courage to speak up about something that's been pending and sitting on my heart," wrote Mays on her Instagram account. The post has since been deleted.

"Today, I can't be upset that I didn't book the role I worked so hard for. This may have been the most difficult, emotional, inspiring, and lengthy audition process I've ever experienced. Getting the chance to portray someone I've always loved and admired so much was a blessing every single step of the way."

Although it wasn't revealed who did get the part, the attractive actress -- who slightly resembles Aaliyah -- said she's thankful to everyone who fought so hard for her to get the role. Mays also stated that she couldn't have worked harder during the audition process.

"I invested every ounce of my body, mind, and soul into this process, and I can honestly say I'm proud of myself. God definitely has something incredible in store for me. A huge thank you to everyone who believed in me, and spoke up for me in the room."

It's safe to assume the producers of the Aaliyah biopic didn't want Mays to reveal this much behind-the-scenes information, especially since there hasn't been an official announcement about the movie yet, aside from the late singer's uncle telling fans the project will air on VH1.

'One in a Million: The Aaliyah Story' will reportedly air on Aug. 25 at 9PM.
