50 Cent’s New Video Inspired By ‘I Am Legend’
The lines between 50 Cent "the rapper" and 50 "the actor" are slowly, but surely blurring into one cohesive being, so it only makes sense that he adds an element of drama to his new video for the single 'Get Up.'
The rapper/actor was inspired by Will Smith's role in the film 'I Am Legend' for the video's concept. "I wanted to do something more exciting and interesting than the traditional club video," he said in an interview. "The directors come in, and guys present treatments to me, and they aren't my usual video directors, and we came up with a concept for it, just a little more futuristic. I took a scene that I seen in a Will Smith film, 'I Am Legend.' It's a collage that I thought was interesting."
Shot on the West Coast, the video flips the concept of 'I Am Legend' where 50 plays a character similar to one in the film sans the zombie fighting. "[I'm] not actually fighting zombies, but you'll see scenes like in the beginning of 'I Am Legend,'" he said. "New York City was desolate, like everything was just gone. Instead, that'll be Los Angeles. There was a scene, one of the creatures was running into the glass, and I kind of re-created that in my own way."
'Get Up,' produced by Dr. Dre and Scott Storch, was released to radio earlier this month. 50's album and accompanying film 'Before I Self Destruct' is due in stores December 9.
