DMX has found himself in trouble with the law even while behind bars.

The 40-year-old New York native, born Earl Simmons, was set to be released from an Arizona state prison this week but his sentence has been extended reportedly as a result of a drug violation.

TMZ has obtained documents that show the '... And Then There Was X' creator failed or refused to submit to a drug test on June 30.

Since January, when DMX first made his entrance into the prison facility -- due to a parole snafu last year -- he accumulated seven infractions total, including disorderly conduct and unauthorized smoking.

Due to his disciplinary problems behind bars, the troubled rhymer has been served with an extra week's jail time.

DMX was scheduled to be released on July 6, then July 13.
