DJ Megatron was shockingly gunned down this past weekend in Staten Island, N.Y., and the veil of mystery surrounding his death is being lifted.

The 32-year-old radio and TV personality, whose real name was Corey McGriff, was allegedly in the borough on early Sunday morning (March 27) to purchase marijuana and a cigar. He was speaking on his cell phone to a friend when he was shot, and while there were no eyewitnesses, three young men supposedly fled the scene. McGriff was pronounced dead on the scene shortly after 2AM. The shooting came unexpectedly, as he has been described by close friends as a jovial character who "everybody liked."

"[He] was more than a respected member of our staff; he was a friend, a father, and a kind spirit," said Patricia Robinson, director of personnel of Emmis Communications. "Our hearts are heavy that we have to lose him in this manner and we pray comfort for his loved ones. We unite in our thoughts and efforts for peace in our communities."

Megatron built his name as a disc jockey on WQHT Hot 97 in New York City, later becoming a public figure as a personality on BET's '106 & Park.' He leaves behind three children and a wife.
