R&B crooner Ne-Yo welcomed a new addition to his family Friday night (Nov. 12) when Monyetta Shaw, the mother of his first child, gave birth earlier than expected in Atlanta, Ga.

According to Allhiphop.com, Ne-Yo, born Shaffer Chimere Smith, was attending a charity event in association with his organization, the Compound Foundation, when he received news that Shaw was in labor. The 'Libra Scale' singer, accompanied by his mother, left the affair and rushed to witness the delivery of his daughter.

The birth of the 31-year-old's baby girl comes prematurely considering reports first surfaced that Shaw was set to deliver the child in January 2011. Earlier this summer, the Las Vegas native shared his enthusiasm over the news he was expecting his first bundle of joy.

"I am 30 and I do have my first child on the way, and I'm very, very, very excited about that," Ne-Yo said. "It's a New Year's baby and I'm just in a really good place right now."
