Jay-Z Christens Tennessee His ‘Second Home’ at Bonnaroo

Jay-Z graced the main stage at the Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival, in Tennessee shortly before midnight on Saturday (June 12), for the second headlining performance of the night. The Brooklyn rapper gave a quick shout out to the legendary Stevie Wonder, who had wrapped up his performance on the same stage, just an hour earlier. Jay excitedly explained to the stadium-sized crowd that he couldn't wait to tell his mother that Stevie stuck around for his performance.

Hov kicked off his 90-minute set with the 'Blueprint 3' single 'Run This Town' before rhyming his verse on Kanye West's 'Diamonds' and then transitioning back to his recent singles 'On To The Next,' and 'D.O.A.'

During his set at the Coachella festival in April, Beyonce joined Jay-Z for a surprise performance, but on Saturday night, B watched from the side of the stage while former Roc-A-Fella artist, Memphis Bleek commanded the second microphone. Bleek stood by Jay's side throughout the night, rolling through a crowd-pleasing set that included '99 Problems,' 'Is That Your Chick', 'Give It To Me,' and 'PSA.'

When the crowd's energy levels began to peak, Jay christened Bonnaroo his "second home," and launched into his smash single 'Empire State of Mind,' while images of the New York City skyline lit up the colorful video screen behind him. The Brooklyn rapper then took some time to connect with the vast audience in between songs, even bringing one fan onstage, to have the crowd serenade her with 'Happy Birthday.' Jay took the time to properly introduce himself to those who were unfamiliar with his music, and promised to take them back through his albums, with songs like 'Big Pimpin' and 'Hard Knock Life.'

During the final few minutes of his set, Jay prefaced a quick political statement about President Obama, by apologizing for "preaching." He told the young crowd to remember that they had changed the world by electing Obama, and then segued into his youthful anthem,'Young Forever,' with all lighters, glowsticks, cell phones and cameras high in the air.

If any concert-goers were unaware of Jay-Z's impressive repertoire before the show, all that had changed by the time he performed his hit 'Encore' to wrap things up. After running through his catalog of hit songs -- which span well over a decade -- Hov made it abundantly clear that eleven number one albums should say it all.
