Diddy Assists Jay Electronica in Summoning Ghost of Biggie

Up-and-coming rapper Jay Electronica released an ambitious new song Friday, invoking the birth name of the late Notorious B.I.G.

On 'The Ghost of Christopher Wallace, the New Orleans emcee namechecks the legendary Biggie Smalls, gaining a huge assist from Diddy, a close friend of the slain Brooklyn rapper. When Jay Elec shared the Quincey Tones-produced, six-and-a-half minute song, which his manager claims is still unfinished, with Diddy, the rap mogul gave the song the ultimate co-sign by providing his signature ad-libs.The result is mostly successful, as Jay channels Biggie's signature bass voice along with an MF Doom-reminiscent flow, which you can check out here.

"I like a lot of the music that's out [now], but I don't get excited like I used to get about rap music," Jay said of his inspiration to record the song. "More often than not when I click on new music and it feels good and I like it, it can be good, it can be great, but I don't necessarily get that feeling I used to get. I just think when Big was around, that time period when people used to rhyme, it was more than just the rhyme and the skill, it was the spirit of the person that you could tap in to. I really wanted to invoke that energy."

Jay Electronica is currently hard at work on his forthcoming debut, as well as a collaboration with Nas and group project with Mos Def and Curren$y.
