DMXAn Arizona judge officially sentenced rapper DMX to six months in jail Tuesday (March 16) for violating his probation, but checking into rehab might save him from serving time behind bars. TMZ.com is reporting that the during the hearing judge was handed a letter from 'Celebrity Rehab' chief physician Dr. Drew Pinsky asking that X be admitted to the Pasadena Rehab facility where the show is filmed.

The judge is said to have been receptive to the idea but there is no word yet on whether it will be allowed. X apparently owned up to violating his probation, caused by using illegal drugs, five times, since his release from jail last year. The embattled emcee was arrested March 9 in Arizona. During his first appearance the 39-year-old displayed erratic behavior yelling at a camera in the courtroom before being escorted back into custody. As previously reported, X's lawyer Gary Jenkins hopes that Pinsky can help save his client. "He's been battling addiction for some time and he's in need of treatment."

Last May the rapper, born Earl Simmons, was released from an Arizona jail after serving 90-days for drug and animal cruelty, and fraud charges. He has since attempted to resuscitate his career by way of a few canceled appearances and was said to be prepping the release of a gospel album. His most recent scheduled event, a church fundraiser, was shut down by high school students once they heard of X's involvement.

A message left at the Pasadena Recovery Center was not returned by press time.
