Where did trapping come from? If you ask 2 Chainz, it all started in the A.

"The word trap started in Atlanta, Ga. It wasn't a music. It was a lifestyle. It was an area, it was an environment where you stayed at," he says. He further explains how "trap" meant to sell drugs but later, it was expanded to selling items. "If you want to use the scale, you gotta pay me," he states, referring to a world with payphones and white T-shirts.

The rapper also spoke with Life+Times for their 'Decoded' series about the worldwide appeal of trap. “I remember this girl, I think she was from London. She was like, ‘You need to listen to some trap music,’ and I was like, 'Who is she talking to?'” he shares.

You can hear 2 Chainz's personal trap stories on his 'B.O.A.T.S. II: Me Time' album, in stores now.
