This current decade has been one of the more unpredictable stretches of time in hip-hop history. While the earlier half included debuts from the likes of Drake, J. Cole, Kendrick Lamar, Future and many others, there was also a period - specifically the year 2014 - that was uneven and uneventful, to put it kindly.

That sentiment may have echoed throughout the rap world and was driven home by fans hungry for a better quality of music, but in 2015, the people got just that and more, with landmark projects from hip-hop's biggest names and a few upstarts helping to breath life into a genre that had lost a bit of its spark in recent years. A few of those releases included K.Dot's To Pimp A Butterfly, Drizzy's If You're Reading This It's Too Late, Future's DS2, Big Sean's Dark Sky Paradise and many more high-profile albums that dominated the Billboard 200 album chart.

But in addition to those offerings, a few other albums were liberated that had been anticipated by the public, but stuck in the artists' vault collecting dust. One of those albums was Dr. Dre's mythical Detox album, which was reworked and released as Compton, the accompanying soundtrack to the N.W.A biopic Straight Outta Compton. Unleashed after more than a decade of broken promises, Compton was one of the most celebrated releases of 2015 and while the reception may have been a mixed one, a majority of listeners were happy to no longer have to ponder if another Dr. Dre album would come into existence.

2015 may have been one of the best years for rap in recent memory, but 2016 has also been a monster, with highlight releases popping up left and right. But what about those other albums that were promised in the past, but have yet to drop?

Fans are still waiting patiently for debut albums from rappers Jay Electronica, Tink, Andre 3000 and so many others. So we handpicked ten of the most coveted, yet severely overdue hip-hop albums that have the public anxiously waiting for their release.

So without further ado, here's our list of 10 Overdue Hip-Hop Albums That Need to See the Light of Day in 2016. Did your favorite make the cut?
